Loving an Irish Man

A quick drabble for St Pat's Day.
The longer story will be ready tomorrow, I hope.
Loving an Irish Man
He'd dreamed of course that one day Brian would call, or text, or email, arranging a meeting somewhere in New York.
He'd just never dreamed it would be in a somewhat seedy Irish pub.
Brian lounged in a booth, the long months between them evaporating as soon as Justin slid in beside him. But even as the kiss of Brian's eyes raised his temperature and pulse rate, Justin couldn't help wondering 'why here?'
His amused demand for an explanation was interrupted as the waitress served plates of food.
Brian smirked.
"It's St Patrick's Day, Sunshine. I wanted some Irish stew."

Happy St Patrick's Day!
PS Actually O'Brien's is quite nice and I can definitely recommend their Irish Stew. Unlike the version I had once on St Pat's Day in Phoenix which was red from all the chili powder and cayenne they'd added. Not quite authentic - or what I was expecting. *g*

I love the kiss of Brian's eyes--great image and natural response by Justin.

Date: 18/3/12 08:02 pm (UTC)I guess it's rather like writing poetry - you have so few words to play with you have to make sure that each one is just right.
But I actually enjoy them, I find them a slightly different challenge and they've proved, in the past, to be a really reliable way to "unstick" myself when my writing gets into the doldrums.
Glad you liked the "kiss" line - that phrase was about the only one that didn't get changed at some point. *g*

Date: 18/3/12 09:09 pm (UTC)I like poetry myself but haven't written any....actually started one a couple of years ago called Starting Over. Wish sometimes that I could go to college now and take my literature courses.
I just thought about the fact that in ten years I"ll be eighty years old and the last five have gone by in a blink. Coming upon the end, here.

Got to get my house clutter cleared.

Date: 18/3/12 09:20 pm (UTC)As for the house clutter - well - yes ... if it's what you want to do.
My philosophy is that de-cluttering is about at the bottom of the ways I want to spend my time. There are so many more interesting things to do *g*
Stephen Fry has a really good book - kind of a work book - about writing poetry called "The Ode Less Traveled".
His view is that we are all poets at heart and should let our inner poet out.
I guess drabbles are kind of my lazy way of doing that. :)

Just checked and I def. know where this pub is. Walked past it quite a few times in my travels.
Thanks for the St Patrick's Day cake. We really didn't celebrate but we did enjoy our six course Gala Dinner at the Sofitel. Great food and wine and I got a pic with Aussie chef, Ben O'Donoghue. Such a cutie and very friendly.

Date: 19/3/12 11:49 am (UTC)The idea of cayenne and chili in Irish Stew is astounding, can't imagine it.
Have you ever tried the Beef and Guinness Stew at Bridie O'Reilly's in the city? I recommend it! The all day breakfast is awesome as well.
