While I've been writing the latest Homecoming chapter it's occurred to me that it's reaching a point where there are things that may not make sense unless it's remembered that Homecoming is essentially an AU which follows on from Reverberations - my S5 "re-write".

So, for those who haven't read Reverb I thought it might be useful to summarise the key differences between Reverberations and canon.

Well, it's been a far longer ride than I'd thought when I started this exercise, but my S5 re-write is finally drawing to an end.

I'm posting this final chapter in two parts because it's too large to fit into one post. They may be a little rough as they haven't been beta'd. Please forgive any errors and just let me know and I'll try to fix them.

I want to thank all of you who've been patient enough to stay around. I will be getting back to Homecoming soon. Although in the meantime there is one other little surprise that has been lurking in my mind for weeks and has had to wait till I got this out the way.

I especially want to thank the wonderful sandid who did the image you'll find in the last chapter. Not only did she capture exactly what I was looking for, but she's been amazingly patient waiting for me to finally get it together to use her work. Sandi - I'm about to start on the other fic you've worked your magic for, so hopefully that will be up in the not too distant future.

I'm guessing that some of you might be disappointed in the direction I take the guys in this one. To me, it's the way that I think would best work for them ... but I know everyone may not agree.

And if you find the ending a bit of a downer, I can only recommend that you move right back to Homecoming, which is kind of where all this started, really.

Anyway, enough blather.

Last time, they were in Chicago, buying rings and trying on tuxes.

Tiny introductory rant. That the C/L writers could claim that they bravely decided in the end to sacrifice the BJ relationship (around which the whole damned show was based) to the cause of “reality” is, IMO, the single biggest crock that they managed to come out with. I can’t begin to express my level of disgust with that piece of blatant hypocrisy. There were so many key incidents in those last few episodes that bore no relation at all to “reality” that giving BJ a happy ending would have seemed the most believable event by comparison. Ben’s little ride off into the sunset with Brian after his attack on the protester, and the complete lack of consequences to his actions struck me forcibly as one of them.

That out of the way ...
