Loving an Irish Man

A quick drabble for St Pat's Day.

The longer story will be ready tomorrow, I hope.

Loving an Irish Man

He'd dreamed of course that one day Brian would call, or text, or email, arranging a meeting somewhere in New York.

He'd just never dreamed it would be in a somewhat seedy Irish pub.

Brian lounged in a booth, the long months between them evaporating as soon as Justin slid in beside him. But even as the kiss of Brian's eyes raised his temperature and pulse rate, Justin couldn't help wondering 'why here?'

His amused demand for an explanation was interrupted as the waitress served plates of food.

Brian smirked.

"It's St Patrick's Day, Sunshine. I wanted some Irish stew."

Happy St Patrick's Day!

PS Actually O'Brien's is quite nice and I can definitely recommend their Irish Stew. Unlike the version I had once on St Pat's Day in Phoenix which was red from all the chili powder and cayenne they'd added. Not quite authentic - or what I was expecting. *g*

Delightful. I commend you for writing a drabble. I tried on, one time, and that was it. They are difficult and you do it well. Always like your holiday stories. Looking forward to tomorrow.

I love the kiss of Brian's eyes--great image and natural response by Justin.

I have to admit that it takes me as long to write a drabble and polish it as it does to write two or three pages of a "normal" story.

I guess it's rather like writing poetry - you have so few words to play with you have to make sure that each one is just right.

But I actually enjoy them, I find them a slightly different challenge and they've proved, in the past, to be a really reliable way to "unstick" myself when my writing gets into the doldrums.

Glad you liked the "kiss" line - that phrase was about the only one that didn't get changed at some point. *g*

I'll have to try writing a memoir drabble. Maybe it'll get me unstuck on my short memoir, Guilty Pleasures.

I like poetry myself but haven't written any....actually started one a couple of years ago called Starting Over. Wish sometimes that I could go to college now and take my literature courses.

I just thought about the fact that in ten years I"ll be eighty years old and the last five have gone by in a blink. Coming upon the end, here.

Got to get my house clutter cleared.

I know what you mean - the time between forty and sixty has just flown for me.

As for the house clutter - well - yes ... if it's what you want to do.

My philosophy is that de-cluttering is about at the bottom of the ways I want to spend my time. There are so many more interesting things to do *g*

Stephen Fry has a really good book - kind of a work book - about writing poetry called "The Ode Less Traveled".

His view is that we are all poets at heart and should let our inner poet out.

I guess drabbles are kind of my lazy way of doing that. :)

I'm going to look for it at the library and if I like it, I will get it.

Thanks for the rec, lady.

[identity profile] wren-kt7oz.livejournal.com 2012-03-18 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And aren't we all glad! LOL

[identity profile] rosy5000.livejournal.com 2012-03-18 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Just shows, that you never know what to expect from Brian. :) Very cute.

[identity profile] wren-kt7oz.livejournal.com 2012-03-18 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
*g* Well, of course he would never be able to get Irish stew in Pittsburgh LOL

Seedy pubs are the best! (Brian knows that.)

[identity profile] wren-kt7oz.livejournal.com 2012-03-18 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely - especially with the right company *g*

[identity profile] kitasangel.livejournal.com 2012-03-18 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Wow you are giving us a bunch of holiday treats. ;p

[identity profile] wren-kt7oz.livejournal.com 2012-03-18 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
*g* I had a lovely St Pat's day and wanted to share. Glad you're enjoying.

[identity profile] bigj52.livejournal.com 2012-03-19 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
So sweet and I'm sure he wants more than Irish stew. Loved this line:

But even as the kiss of Brian's eyes raised his temperature and pulse..........

Just checked and I def. know where this pub is. Walked past it quite a few times in my travels.

Thanks for the St Patrick's Day cake. We really didn't celebrate but we did enjoy our six course Gala Dinner at the Sofitel. Great food and wine and I got a pic with Aussie chef, Ben O'Donoghue. Such a cutie and very friendly.

Thank you.

Yes, it's right near the theatre where SLS was on.

And ITA about Brian wanting more than Irish Stew LOL

[identity profile] bigj52.livejournal.com 2012-03-21 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
In that case I def. have been there. [profile] wildsweet_angel took me for a walk past there and relived the night she saw Gale and I saw it last year on my way to a show. I now need to read the rest of your fic.

It's actually okay. I stayed at the Muse hotel next door, so it was a convenient place for me to have a late dinner.

[identity profile] spike7451.livejournal.com 2012-03-19 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
Loved it. A delight to read. :)

The idea of cayenne and chili in Irish Stew is astounding, can't imagine it.

Have you ever tried the Beef and Guinness Stew at Bridie O'Reilly's in the city? I recommend it! The all day breakfast is awesome as well.

[identity profile] wren-kt7oz.livejournal.com 2012-03-21 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

Yes, the Phoenix experience was quite surreal.

And I have tried their stew. YUM>

[identity profile] spike7451.livejournal.com 2012-03-21 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
YUM indeed.
