Loving Brian - a new drabble

Because last week was all kinds of stress ... I rescued myself by writing a new drabble (even a mini dose of BJ can cheer me up).

Loving Brian

Despite what people might think, loving Brian is easy. It’s being loved by Brian that can be tough.

In the beginning, the more his resistance to loving me was eroded, the more skittish he became, lashing out in panic and hurting me till finally we reached the Ethan disaster.

Now, the more he loves me, the more prone he is to push me away because I “deserve better”.

It’s such a crock. He’s the best thing that could ever happen to me. Always was. Always will be. Loving him is easy.

It’s dealing with Brian loving me that’s the challenge.

Thank you. I think that (idiotic bet things aside) it's been one of the biggest challenges to them being together - the fact that Brian quite literally doesn't know how to love him - because he doesn't believe that being with him can be the best thing for anyone. *sigh*

Thanks. Sometimes I read comments and discussions around the fandom, and wonder how obvious it is. To me, the fact that Brian loves Justin has been obvious to me since S1. Others seem sometimes to be less sure. The "if Brian really loved him, he would ..." is still heard in some quarters.

And, of course, ditto with Justin.

So occasionally, I feel like stating the obvious is sort of a necessary thing to do ... because some people seem to be forgetting, in the wake of the trauma that was S5, just how obvious it all was. Well, till C/L managed to stuff it all up, of course.

I found the love that Brian showed Justin when he first made love to (not just fucked) Justin saying so intimately that he wanted him to always remember that he would always be with him... there is no way he was saying that to any of his other tricks. Brian was protecting him and also claiming him in a way which would be impossible to escape from, although I'm sure he would never have acknowledged that anywhere near the beginning of their relationship. And he continued to do so.

Yes Justin's right, being loved by Brian is very difficult but luckily for Brian he's found a man strong and clever enough to take it and run with it most of the time.

Thank you.. And yes, exactly. It does take both strength and intelligence to deal with being loved by Brian (which is why the whole Mikey thing was never going to happen - he just would have crumbled under half the stuff Justin dealt with in their first year).

And ITA about how revealing that first night was - lots of things - that he shared the "shower scene" story, that he took Justin to the hospital, that it was Justin he asked about the name, that he took so much time and care with him.

And one of the biggest giveaways, to me, was next day. It was such a small thing, but as you say, so different to anythingn Brian would ever do with a trick that it just screamed that already Justin was someone special ... it was the way, standing at the jeep outside the school, Brian reached out and straightened Justin's collar.

Oh, I go all wibbly just thinking about those early episodes.

Thanks. I suspect that Brian's ability to love isn't really the issue ... it's expressing it, living it out day by day that he isn't really comfortable with. But you're right, Justin is just the one to deal with that.

And glad you picked that quote. I think (meanie that I am) that I wanted to "steal" the "always have, always will" line, and turn it into a BJ one instead. Now that's what I'm always going to think of when I hear it, anyway. *g*
