Yes ... I could never believe how the women spoke about Brian in front of Gus. That clearly demonstrated to me that they just don't have any real sense of Gus as his own little individual; they just see him as extensions of their own egos.
As for Dan ... I think you're exactly right in what you say about another perspective. I think there are differences of course, but I also believe that the parallels are so strong that just meeting Dan has done a great deal to allay some of Brian's fears about both whether he can be a good partner and about what it says about him that he might want to be. The fact that Dan is so unapologetically free from bullshit has, I suspect, reassured Brian that he doesn't have to buy into the whole "Stepford fag" thing to have a solid and lasting relationship with Justin.
