Yes ... I think Brian has a very loving heart - more so than Justin, IMO. I honestly believe that's why the whole 'heartless asshole' persona was developed - just to protect it.
And you're right, when Brian he goes with his first instincts he nearly always gets it right. It's when he reacts against those instincts that he stuffs up. That's probably true of most of us, actually.
