I remember what it felt to every Sunday evening to leave my home and my husband. I always knew I would come back on Friday, but I always was afraid that, one Friday night, he would tell me that the next there would be no place for me to come back any more. And I know that he was afraid, too. That fear was the worst part of that time.
Thanks, Ela, for sharing that.
I've only tried one long distance relationship, and it was ... well, tough. We hadn't known each other very long, and there just wasn't enough there to sustain the relationship.
But I do believe that the saying about "Distance is to love is what wind is to flame - it extinquishes the small, and enkindles the great."
Because I think that time apart, time spent missing each other, time spent realising that life is just less without the other to share it with - that time allows all the little niggles that plague day to day loving to fade into the background, and really helps to gain perspective on how nothing - certainly not the pursuit of fame and fortune - is worth sacrificing something so rare and so precious for.
That's what I hope for, and believe in, for Brian and Justin post S5.
I have to admit that I'm also driven to distraction by the people (including characters in the show - notably Linds and Mel) who say that it would be a bad decision for Justin to "give up" this opportunity to be with Brian. Because they are exactly the same people who were all over Brian with how selfish and stupid he was being when he was looking at taking the job in New York.
Why would one have been a foolish decision to stay, and the other a foolish one to go? They would both have had the same motive - to advance their career. And they would both have faced the same penalty - losing a relationship. I think that it's totally hypocritical to think that Justin should go, but believe that Brian should have stayed.
Drives me nuts.
Thanks for the invitation. I'll try to at least pop in to say hello. But, well, you know how it is with trying to juggle on-line life with so called real life. ::g::
But I appreciate the invitation, and hope to see you there soon.
