Hi everyone

For those that haven't checked out the [livejournal.com profile] qaf_gftxchnge entries (and why not? I ask), I thought I'd post a link to the two vids that were made for my requests. One was a gift, the other my raffle prize. Here is the link to the first - made by the extraordinary [livejournal.com profile] maybe742 based on Rod Stewart's version of My Way of Giving.

I don't think until I'd seen the vid that I appreciated just how well the lyrics fitted BJ.

And the second, by the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] qafmaniac is this one, based on Leonard Cohen's Dance Me to the End of Love

I do love seeing our boys dancing their troubles away.

And finally, as an extra treat, the story that was written for me by [livejournal.com profile] sfscarlet which to me captures Brian's "everything has to be a prodcution number with you" side perfectly. *g* The Trip.

Thank you

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rulisteningbj; [livejournal.com profile] kmboatright; [livejournal.com profile] ancilu and [livejournal.com profile] spike7451 for my gifts.

They were lovely and brightened my day.

And here is something that brightened my last day in Bilbao. We were wandering through the Old Town and came across a wedding shop - sold cake toppers, and all the general accoutrements for all kinds of weddings. This was part of the window display.

Hopefully one day, in all countries, this will be such a common sight that none of us will even notice it. Except maybe to think, 'remember when we first saw this kind of thing'.

Wedding shop

Thank you

Thank you so much to everyone who sent gifts and greetings for my birthday.

I'll try to respond personally, but this week (at least the first part) is going to be fairly full on.

However, I have a four day weekend coming up (yay!), so I'll get some time then.

I truly appreciated your kind thoughts.

As 2012 winds to a close I'd like to start this short post by apologising for not being around much of late. I know that I haven't been keeping up with my friends, that I've barely managed to follow some of my fave fics and that a new Homework chapter is way overdue. The last quarter of 2012 has been very difficult for me for a number of reasons - most of them work related. Anyway, my apologies to all the people I've not been in touch with.

I'd like to thank the people who have left me v-gifts. You can't know how much they have meant to me, even if it seemed like I was ignoring them. So thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chloris01, [livejournal.com profile] marny1[livejournal.com profile] my2cats[livejournal.com profile] spike7451 and [livejournal.com profile] masterglory. And even deeper apologies to anyone I've missed. LJ isn't letting me onto my profile page at the moment, so I can't double check.

And finally, I'd like to post this. Now, I've thought long and hard about putting this on here, because the last time I commented on US politics, it stirred up a bit of a hornet's nest.

But, somewhat to my surprise, I became mesmerised by the show The Newsroom, and when the Will McAvoy character made this speech in the final episode (or rather series of speeches they are not, in the episode, a single continous monologue), I almost felt like cheering. It was honestly one of the viewing highlights of my year.

So I'm putting up the youtube link.

To give you a little context, Jeff Daniels plays a news anchor at a cable news station where they decide that instead of "infotainment" they are actually going to broadcast the news in a way that is intended to inform and educate, not brainwash and downright deceive. The newsclips they use, like the one of John McCain are all real clips.

Enjoy! Or not. I'm assuming that my journal readers do not include religious fundamentalists of any persuasion, and the only reason that Tea Party members would be reading is to put me on some kind of 'subversive alien' list (I'll know who to blame if I have trouble getting into the States on my next visit).

I truly love this clip and especially the reference to the greatest enemy of the Tea Party. I completely agree.

Happy New Year, everyone. I hope that 2013 brings you joy and peace and laughter; that you never go short of happiness, food when you're hungry, drink when you thirst, comfort when you are sad and people to laugh with. If love finds you along the way, that's a bonus.

Have a good one.

First, I wanted to thank everyone who has commented on the final chapter of Homecoming. It's been amazing. The donation total is rising nicely.

Second ... I guess I kind of jumped the gun. I've been using Home-building as the working title for the next part of the story for a while now (seriously, months), and I've never really been happy with it. It seemed a little clunky, but I wanted to keep the 'home' thing in there, and I wanted it to be a single word, so I couldn't think of anything else.

of course, as soon as I announce that will be the name of the next part, I finally have the breakthrough moment and think of what the title really should be.

Anyway, overnight, thanks to my subconscious kicking in while I was asleep, Home-building has become Homework.

There are going to be reasons why that title is going to work better anyway, aside from the obvious one that building a home, a real home, is work.

So ... just thought I'd let you know.

Sorry that I didn't have this idea earlier. That's just the way my mind works sometimes.

I hope to get the first chapter up by next weekend at the latest.

And thanks again.

Thank you

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ravenly265, [livejournal.com profile] spike7451, [livejournal.com profile] tootiredtosleep and [livejournal.com profile] chloris01 for my Halloween gifts and [livejournal.com profile] bksbracelet for my non-Halloween gift.

Much love and Happy Halloween!
